Alley of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, natives of Mogilev region.
More than 100 heroes were born in Mogilev region. Some of them are well-known outside of our country, such as, Air Marshal Krasovskiy, scout of invisible front Manevich L.E. (the book «Land on demand» by Vorobiov is dedicated to Manevich), pioneer of sniper movement, participant of military defense of Leningrad Feodosy Smolyachkov. He was born in village Podgorie of Bykhov district. At the age of 16 he went to Leningrad, were he studied and than worked at a construction site. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War Smolyachkov volunteered for the Soviet Army, he got to independent company of the 13th division and set up sniper movement at Leningrad front line. Almost every day he went to the battlefront and stayed at outliers for 12–14 hours, tracked down and killed the Hitlerites. In the troop he trained 10 good snipers. Only for 90 days 125 Nazis were killed with 126 shotshells. Feodosy Smolyachkov was killed on battle station on January, 15,1942.
Here’s also situated a portrait of courageous woman — Vera Zakharovna Khoruzhaya. After her husband`s death and birth of son, she filed an application requesting to send her to occupied Belarus. Vera`s relatives were trying to talk he out of it, however Vera Zakharovna said «I`m responsible not only for my children but also for the children of the whole world», for all that her son at that time was only 11 monts. She died at Viebsk at Gestapo.
Among the heroes there`s also a name of Leonid Lorchenko. A Mogilev schoolboy became a member of an underground and a great patriot of his native city starting from the first days of occupation. Later he joined a guerrilla detachment, where, having been surrounded by chasteners he blew up himself together with the invaders using the last grenade. Today in our city there`s a street named after him.
Among these heroes- three of them are two times heroes of the Soviet Union — colonel Shutov, tank crew member, Marshall of the Soviet Union Yakubovskiy Ivan Ignatievich, who was Commander-In-Chief of associate armed forces of Warsaw Pact countries. Ivan Ignatievich died on November, 30, 1976 and was buried with the highest military honours at Kremlin`s wall. Three of 6 two-time Heroes of the Soviet Union are our fellow-countryman.
In our city we also honour and remember about those, who excelled during liberation of the city. During celebration of 60-year anniversary of the city liberation, a memorial plaque in commemoration of Hero of the Soviet Union Aslan Vezirov was installed. In 1944 colonel Vizirov, who was in charge of the 1st guard assault field engineer detachment of the second Belarusian front took part in liberation of the city. For courage and heroism demonstrated during battles near Mogilev, the detachment was called «Mogilev» and its chief was awarded with Order of the Red Star. The Guards Hero Star colonel Vezirov received while assault crossing of the Oder. Mogilev people still remember the name of the hero. In 1986 he was awarded with a title of honorary freeman and some years later on the initiative of the Azerbaijanian public association «Khazar» his name was immortalized in memorial plaque. 62 years ago we won because we were together. Friendship gives us strength also today.
